Capacity Building for Calaca, Batangas Local Governments Unit (LGU), Public Market Vendors and Households to Operate a Biogas Facility: Learning from European and ASEAN/Thai Best Practices (2006)
The objectives was to capacitate the LGUs of Calaca municipality, Batangas province and Tagbilaran City (Bohol province of the Philippines) as well as their respective public market vendors associations on biogas production as an alternative renewable energy source through a sustainable household and public market solid waste management system.
Specifically, the project aims to:
-- Provide knowledge and skills to LGU personnel, public market vendors' association members, and other concerned community members on biogas production and renewable energy sources.
-- Implement a sound household and public market solid waste management system plan involving segregation, collection, and recycling that will serve as input to biogas production as well as help arrest environmental degradation.
-- Establish linkage of public market vendors associations and LGU's to funding sources of biogas facility as an alternative energy source.
The project was executed under leadership of IRG - International Resources Group (Philippines) in team with experts from Thailand and Austria. CENTRIC AUSTRIA INTERNATIONAL was responsible for the design and consulting of the municipal solid waste management plan.
