Training sessions in China

At the five Chinese centres Hangzhou, Nanjing, Shanghai, Tianjin and Chongqing, the EU experts from CENTRIC AUSTRIA INTERNATIONAL provided a modular training programme of more than 80 distinct lessons. Lectures were presented by 13 different EU experts. The total number of Chinese participants was 166.

=> Hangzhou, March-April 2000: Main focus of this course was to introduce Chinese experts – mainly from the tourism sector – into European approaches to energy conservation in hotels including environmental protection as a frame for sustainable energy management. In detail European programmes including political and regulatory background were presented. Concrete measures and their implementation options were discussed from the management and the technological point of view. The training was performed in the way of a lively workshop and an interactive procedure between Chinese and European experts was gained. Based on the experiences of this training course, the Chinese tourism commission is planning a country wide campagne to disseminate these innovative approaches as far as possible.

=> Tianjin, April 2000: China is one of the most important users of geothermal resources worldwide. Similar to Europe mainly low temperature systems are used. Especially Tianjin area has very rich geothermal resources. Following the wishes of the Chinese partners the training course in Tianjin was focused on geothermal, thusfore. The contents of altogether 16 training sessions covered hydro-geological basics and geophysical aspects of well drilling as well as the technological appliances for geothermal exploitation and related marketing issues. The theoretical input was completed by a site visit and detailed discussions. The European experts were able to answer a lot of further questions. The final discussion and some talks beside the official course time generated some ideas for further co-operation. The Chinese demand for continued know-how transfer is obvious.

=> Shanghai, March-April 2000:Main focus of this training course was energy conservation in commercial buildings with specific regard to HVAC systems. Main topics of lectures were: Energy conservation concepts in buildings – Energy conservation technologies in HVAC systems – Solar heating and air conditioning – Operation control and building management. The European lecturers with specific background in research, design and operating energy systems showed examples and case studies from Europe as well as from Asia. One day was reserved for questions, to meet some specific needs of the participants. Specialities and future trends of energy conservation could be presented. In this training course one obstacle, which is the very sectoral thinking of Chinese experts, became obvious. At least the challenge, to introduce the Chinese experts into a more holistic point of view on energy saving, could be mastered.

=> Chongqing, May 2000: Main focus of this training course was energy conservation in buildings, which includes standards and techniques of energy saving building, building insulation material, HVAC systems, green lighting, application of solar energy buildings, water saving techniques and relevant policies and regulations. The theoretical input was practically used in an actual case study on the hotel, where the training was performed. Chongqing, located in the more west of China, is a quite different experience compared to the east of China. Because of many building prospects regarded with the three gorges project, interest in new construction techniques and materials is very high.

=> Nanjing, May 2000: The main focus of this training course was similar to the parallel performed training in Chongqing. The participants were architects, building material experts, officials from construction departments and building companies. The theoretical input was completed by an intensive discussion on two visited residential building projects in the City. Further interests for co-operation exist in the fields of insulation and construction materials and in the solar sector. These invitations for continued co-operation should be realized with emphasis.

Study tour to selected EU countries – Austria, Germany and Italy:
- A long term training period in Europe at EU energy companies, utilities, universities, research institutes, etc
The programme was supported by the European Commission within the framework of SYNERGY and the Austrian Government. The executor of the programme was SYNERGY CHINA – CENTRIC AUSTRIA, a consortium of well experienced professionals, scientists and practical experts.
