UNDP Clean Energy Action China

Location

18 Chinese cities

Duration

2002 - 2004 (ongoing)

Objectives

The project aims at capacity building of the responsible institutions and experts for energy management in 18 Chinese cities with special emphasis on the Western Region of China. The involved cities are asked to develop under guidance of international and domestic experts comprehensive clean energy action plans for their cities.

The supporting project activities are:

  • a series of 6 workshops and seminars
  • evaluation of energy plans
  • individual consulting
  • feasibility studies on innovative energy investment projects

  • performance of some representative demonstration projects

Interim results

The project is still ongoing. The first round has been completed with the evaluation of the 18 energy plans, worked out up to now. The results are reported in an internal publication.

Role in the project

Providing an international clean energy policy expert in person of Mr. Weihs, who gave lectures on this topic at training courses in Chongqing and in Xi'an and was member of the evaluation team of the energy plans. He will also contribute to the evaluation of the whole project and be a co-author of the guidelines resulting out of the project ready for discussion by the China State energy committee.

In April/May 2002 a study tour in Germany, Austria, Italy and Greece was organised by our office.
