April 2007 : CAI experts on Post-Tsunami-'Relive' mission in India
CENTRIC AUSTRIA INTERNATIONAL experts Miroslav Maly and Jiri Klicpera visited 14 communities in Tsunami affected regions of South India during March 17 to April 1, 2007.
Three Indian partners - the Advisory Services in Environmental Management (GTZ ASEM), the Academy of Gandhian Studies (AGS) and the Society for Rural Development (SRD) - and two European partners - Adelphi Research form Germany and CENTRIC Austria International (CAI) from Austria have developed RELIVE (Upgrade Environmental Infrastructure by Restoring Livelihoods) aiming at the development of a integrated and sustainable rehabilitation programme in Tsunami affected regions of South India. The project is being financed by the European Commission under the EU-Asia PRO ECO IIB Post Tsunami Programme.
The project aims to enable the target communities to operate and maintain their public environmental infrastructure. To make individual projects sustainable after their implementation they should be adjusted to local use and maintenance practices. For ensuring that technologies are easy to use and maintain, they should fulfil certain criteria: locally adapted / adaptable and available, socially accepted, easy to use and to maintain, spare parts available, training/introduction together with the supplier if possible, adequate training effort, duration for testing phase not too long
The aim of the mission of CAI experts Maly and Klicpera was to “translate” the formulated needs of the target communities into technical specifications in order to compile tender dossiers according to EC-guidelines.
