December 2008 : Kick-off meeting on Clean Coal to Oil
The EU-China Energy and Environment Programme (EEP) hold a kick-off meeting on the 22nd of December 2008 at the Crowne Plaza Sun Palace in Beijing to officially launch the EU-China project: Feasibility Study - Best Options and Policy Framework for Conservation and Substitution of Oil by Clean Coal Technologies. The meeting was attended by officials from NDRC, EU and other colleagues from relevant organizations and industries.
The specific objective of the project is to investigate – by means of a feasibility study, covering operational, economical, technical, social and environmental aspects of sustainability – the option for China, to achieve a substitution of petroleum oil through enhanced use and development of “clean-coal-to-oil” technologies and projects. The project seeks to investigate the options for the People’s Republic of China to minimize its dependence on imported oil and oil products.
The feasibility study is undertaken by the China Coal Information Institute and CENTRIC AUSTRIA INTERNATIONAL.
Based on the analysis of current coal to oil technologies in China and abroad, evaluation criteria and an evaluation model are developed and desktop and on site investigations and research in China and in Europe should provide the best options and recommendations for a policy framework.
