May 2005 : Kick-off meeting to start CO2 manager project in China

After internal meetings on European side and with the Chinese coordinators Mr. Gerhard Weihs, managing director of CENTRIC AUSTRIA INTERNATIONAL invited to the official kick-off meeting of the project, which was held at the China Hall of Science and Technology in Beijing on May 10, 2005.
The Action CO2 Managers for the Industry in The People's Republic of China is a Technology Partnership Project within the ASIA PRO ECO Programme to strengthen the dialog between EU and China concerning CO2 and climate change and comprises a number of seminars, training sessions, the provision of training materials and publications. The Action aims to prepare the ground for cooperation between EU and China to undertake common efforts in CO2 mitigation and improve the environmental and economical performance of the Chinese industry through capacity building for advanced CO2 management by means of professional human resources development and providing adequat management methods and tools to multiply the approach. Along the line from understanding to implementation a number of logically combined training & seminar activities will introduce: o first, the importance, the scientific and political background and mayor fields of CO2 management, o second, basic tools for data inventory in form of energy audits, o third, methods of CO2 assessment and strategy development on company level o fourth, implementation of mitigation measures, in convential approaches and in the framework of emission trading, if appropriate. The classroom activities will be completed with practical exercices and seminar work papers supervised by EU experts. To further illustrate the theoretical input a mission to Europe is planned to meet key players from industry and institutions interested in cooperation with China. To sustain the operation a guideline for CO2 management in China will be edited in printing and in the internet and presented with other outcomes at a final conference. During the Kick-off meeting which was attended by Mr. LI Baoshan (MoST), Mr. ZHOU Longchao (MOST), Mr. LI Wei (CERS), Mr. XIN Mingy (CERS), Mr. LUI Huihong (CERS), Mr. YANG Xiadong (Capital Engineering & Research Incorporation Ltd.), Mr. QI Hongwei (Beijing Research Institute of Chemical Industry), Mr. James Hogan (CTC, Ireland), Mr. Gerhard Weihs, (CENTRIC) and Mr. Rainer Agster (CENTRIC), the main aspects of the project implementation were agreed successfully.
