September 2009: EEP project Coal-to-Oil final conference in Beijing
The dissemination conference of the EEP Project "Feasibility Study - Best Options and Policy Framework for Conservation and Substitution of Oil by Clean Coal Technologies" was convened at Sofitel Wanda Hotel in Beijing on 22nd and 23rd of September 2009.
The conference was organized by CAI's project partner CCII, and it was sponsored by EEP (EU Energy and Environment Programme). The conference was attended by more than 100 delegates including: Mr. Peng Jianxun, deputy director of State Administration of Coal Mine Safety, Mr. Huang Shengchu, President of CCII, Dr. Kurt Wiesegart, Director of EEP, and experts from Austria, Denmark, Great Britain; along with representatives of many of the Chinese coal to liquids project groups.
Mr. Huang Shengchu delivered a keynote presentation entitled "China's Current Situation and Potential of Oil Substitution by Clean Coal". Dr. Li Hongjun gave a presentation summarising CCII's and CAI's approach to the project along with a summary of achievements and conclusions. In addition, Mu Xin, manager of Dalian Institute of Chemical Physics, Han Mei, Engineer from Coal Chemical Industry Branch of YanZhou Coal Mining Group, Mr. Gu Zongqin, President of China Petroleum and Chemical Industry Planning Institute, and Cui Jianhua, manager of Haldor Topsoe along with more than 10 other experts reported the technology of coal to methanol, coal to DME, coal to low olefin and coal to liquid technologies.
During the conference, CCII published the research achievements of the project and the delegates set a high value on this. The participants discussed the status of the coal to liquid technology and national policies, existing problems and the targeting of a direction for the future of the industry in China and abroad. The conference also established a new platform for expanding the international collaboration in the field of coal to liquids.
