Course objectives of the four training blocs
First bloc - Basics of CO2 management of training & seminars (November 2005)
· Introduce the project: aims, activities, actors, expected results
· Familiarize with the scientific background of climate change
· Be aware of the international framework of climate change policy
· Learn about a CDM programme suitable for China (Austrian example)
· Comprehend the main principles and concepts to identify reasonable CDM projects
· Practice the methodology to set-up a CO2 inventory
· Start developing CO2 inventories in group and homework
Second bloc - Company strategy for CO2 reduction (February 2006)
· Give feedback on homework since first block of training & seminars
· Present results of homework
· Refine CO2 inventories
· Identify mitigation options to reduce CO2 emissions industry
· Develop a company strategy
· Calculate savings of energy and costs through internal improvements
· Sort mitigation options and differ between conventional options and options suitable for CDM
· Draft a Project Idea Note (PIN) in the framework of the Austrian CDM programme
· Refine PIN as homework
Third bloc - Emission trading (May 2006 in Europe)
· Interact with European actors, experts and institutions in the area of emission trading and CDM during a study tour to Europe
· Understand the practice of emission trading within the CDM framework (Carbon Expo, Cologne)
· Present and discuss Project Idea Notes (PIN)
Fourth bloc – Design of CDM projects (September 2006)
· Refine Project Idea Notes (PIN)
· Learn to develop Project Design Documents
· Follow-up promising PINs with the development of baseline studies and Project Design Documents (PPD)
