October 2004 : Third company workshop in Tianjin - Agenda

Tianjin – October 13 to 15, 2004

1th day – October 13, 2004

09:00 – 12:00

Feedback by participating companies

Each of the participating companies will present a brief report about the progress made since the last workshop in August 2004:

  • Duration of each presentation should be 15 minutes
  • Presentations should be prepared in Chinese and in English language
  • Please, use flipcharts or power-point for presentation in the classroom

Requested contents of the presentations:

  • Progress made in data collection according to CP Assessment Report
  • Progress made in embodiment of CP in the company (CP team, management support, involvement and training and motivation of staff members, etc.)
  • Identified problems and their causes
  • Implemented measures of improvement
  • Planned measures of improvement
  • Environmental and economical benefits of improvements so far
  • Remaining critical questions and problems

13:00 – 16:00

Presentation and discussion of the project schedule until project end

  • Interim review of the aim, the purpose and the results of the project

Remaining tasks until project end

  • Completing work on CP assessment report (until March 2005) – EU experts will make one-day visits in each company during two expert missions within this time period
  • Performance of Technology assessment based on now detailed information of demands and constraints of each company (continuously until project end and even beyond if required) – EU experts will provide detailed technology information and providers
  • Preparation and performance of business mission to Europe (in April 2005)– The draft agenda will be presented during the workshop
  • Evaluation of achievements and results (May to June 2005) – A checklist will e presented
  • Award for successful participating companies and Chinese experts during a final conference (August 2005)
  • Design of final report and guideline for replication of the project (Until October 2005)

2nd day – October 14, 2004

Sustain CP in the participating companies

How to make CP an integral and permanent part of daily activities in the company. A new part 6 of the textbook will provide a number of related aspects:

  • Why we do CP in the foundry
  • Use of indicators and benchmarks for controlling
  • Documentation of continuous improvements
  • Planning for the future to continue improving – Environmental plan
  • Formulation of a modern environmental CP policy

CP award for the successful participating companies

The project intends to show CP as a useful approach for the whole industry. That concrete results and benefits have been already achieved during the project lifetime will be promoted to the public with an award for the successful first CP foundries in China:

  • Procedure of the award
  • Criteria for the award

How to set up an Environmental Management System (ISO 14001)

  • The CP efforts of a company can be used optimally to set up an Environmental Management System.

Best Practice and Case studies of CP in foundries

  • On the basis of the environmental impacts of the foundry operation the lecture will highlight best practice from pattern making to packing focusing on efficiency improvements.
  • Supported by a new part 7 of the textbook, EU experts will present a number of case studies based on international experiences.
