Sustainability

Strategy how the project approach is intended to be institutionalized in China.

The project provided a perfect reference

The results of the project show that implementing Cleaner Production into the foundry industry increases benefit on many levels.

  • The knowledge about resource consumption, energy and raw materials, enables the companies to evaluate option for improvement by applying the tools disseminated in the workshops and other activities. These improvements often can be achieved without investments only by applying good house keeping practices and changed methods and operations.
  • Appling the strategy of CP the company analysis all processes and operations within the project boundary which helps the management to understand the complex processes of casing in good quality and increases the commitment to implement controlling mechanisms. This controlling is linked to adequate data assessment and the definition of performance indicators. A methodology hardly ever implemented in Chinese foundries, especially one in the transition process form governmental to private companies.
  • The companies got in touch with best practice examples and state of the art technology during the project. Obviously most of the companies wish to change to modern equipment at once but limited financial capacity is slowing down this process. The CAI and the TFA have offered them sever opportunities to enable them to transfer the technology. The increased management capacity and savings in the CP project will additionally motivate them to invest in their modernisation.
  • The foundry companies also face the problem that the raw material and energy is getting more and more expensive. Appling CP helps to minimize the input while increasing the output.
  • The governmental pressure on the industry is as well getting bigger. The enforcement of the environmental laws, the regulations of product quality and compliance, the location etc. are going to create new challenges for this sector.
  • The demand on ISO 14001 certificates from overseas customers is raising. The CP report and the environmental programme are a very good basis for implementing this management system.

These are main aspect why a company should start to manage its processes and implement tools of the CP strategy. These benefits are easy to communicate and especially the potential savings will drive the companies also in the future to invest in the improvement of their processes while complying with all regulations. The reductions of the environmental impacts are a result of these improvements. This fact will also motivate the government to promote CP activities, as they slowly realising that the depletion and destruction of their natural resources will finally stop the sustainable development of their society.
