The importance of CO2 management
There are mainly to reasons to manage CO2 in a professional manner, one is global, the other is economical:
CO2 emissions are responsible for the greenhouse effect and cause the climate change with all its predicted dramatical effects on societies and economies worldwide. Therefore, CO2 emissions have to be reduced with global responsibility of the whole humanity.
CO2 emissions are further a leading indicator of more or less efficient use of energy resources. More or less energy efficiency means mostly also more or less cost-efficiency and more or less impacts to the environment in general. Therefore, CO2 emissions have to be reduced to improve the environmental quality locally and to raise competitiveness of industry by achieving higher productivity/efficiency.
With respect to this problem analysis the overall objectives of CO2 management can be summarized as follows:
- Strengthen the dialog between countries worldwide concerning CO2 and climate change, to feasible common efforts to meet their global responsibility.
- Prepare the ground for co-operation on concrete business levels, expressed for example in terms of emission trading, by generating a common understanding and by harmonizing and standarizing approaches.
- Improve the environmental (resource/energy efficient) and economical (cost efficient) performance of industry and consumers by more efficient use of energy.
