The BMT cycle
The here presented methodology describes the setting up of BMT as a revolving six-phase process:
=> The first phase of BMT is to obtain the management commitment of the company and to establish a BMT team.
=> The second phase is to establish a reliable data collection system to measure and monitor the current situation.
=> The third phase is the clever interpretation of the collected data and their evaluation in form of indicators generation.
=> The fourth phase is the comparison with internal and external benchmarks to explore the potentials for improvements.
=> The fifth phase is to formulate concrete targets for improvements.
=> The sixth phase is the identification and implementation of improvements by using best practices.
All six phases consist of a number of distinct tasks. After the sixth phase the BMT cycle restarts again to sustain the procedure.
In order to make such a process to a success further cross section tasks are necessary to organise a company for BMT:
=> Establishment of an efficient reporting and communication system within the company
=> Qualification and training on different levels
=> Desktop research on best practices
